Realism is a style of painting in which I attempt to represent the physical world as accurately as I can. My goal in these paintings is to learn as much as I can about the subject and how I can best represent that subject through the medium of paint on canvas.

One of the great benefits of painting is the time it allows for meditating on an idea. My surrealism paintings result from musings on the meaning of life. I don't claim to have any great insights into life, just reflections on my own journey. The skills developed in painting realistic images of the world are used as the basis of expressing my thoughts about, and emotional responses to life's experiences.

In times past there was a well developed "language" of symbols in religious art. This language was passed on through the generations as a means of teaching theology, and was readily understood by those who viewed the artwork. I am attempting to learn some of that original language. As a Christian my artwork is influenced by my faith and my desire to share the ways my beliefs have shaped my life.

I enjoy the challenge of developing images to enhance and explain written text. The process of working with the author or editor to realize their vision is a rewarding exercise. I am willing to consider any illustration assignment and can be contacted at my e-mail address.
